Synopsis (NOT Sysopsis)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, Folks, you asked for it and here it is - at last!
The "ALL-In-1" Menu!
Actually, when this A-MENU program first came out on May 8, 1995,
it was affectionately called the "3-In-1" Menu, where WildCat!'s
three primary Menu Screens were combined into one elegant screen.
Naturally, knowing how we SysOps love 'em little niceties in each
and every program, I threw in some back then, such as ...
* Ad Banner Displays (on the top)
* Informational Screens for Ad Banners
* Ad Banner Display Controls
* Hot Keys for Menu Options
* Arrow-movements on the Screen
* User-Friendly Messages for each Menu Option (on the bottom)
Well, Folks, I "heard" you loud and clear. Many of you exclaimed
(or cried for that matter): "Hey, that's nice, but I want to be
able to configure each and every menu option on the screen..."
Well, Folks, NOW, with A-MENU Version 3.4 in your hands, you can!
Now, you can configure each one of A-MENU screen's 44 Menu Options!
Now, you have 61 different Menu Commands to pick from for each Option!
Now, you can assign ALL or selected Security Levels to each Option!
Now, you can also assign Security Levels for each A-MENU Screen!
Now, you can edit A-MENU.CFG File online from inside A-MENU Program!
Now, you can run wcDRAW to edit Screen from inside A-MENU Program!
Now, you can have A-MENU screens call one another, up & down & sideways!
Now, you can edit Menu Options and see how well they work "on the fly!"
Now, you can try out and edit A-MENU's four Pre-set A-Menu Screens!
Now, you can copy and move A-MENU Screens!
Now, you can review each Menu Option's settings!
Now, you can create and edit A-MENU Screens locally and even remotely
without having to bring your board down!
Now, you can review Menu Command Options access by Security Level online
without having to go into your MAKEWILD!
Now, you have TWO ways to edit/review Security Level Access by A-MENU
Screens!

Benefits of A-MENU
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-MENU is a highly flexible and convenient program where it allows you to
create or modify Menu Screens "on the fly" - whether you are online locally
or even remotely!
A-MENU is ideal for practically anything. You can use it to make your
primary screens. Its support for Hot Keys and arrow movements and for
User-friendly messages for each one of the menu options you create for
each A-MENU Screen makes your board more User-friendly and attractive for
your callers!
A-MENU is also great for Sub-Menus, such as for your Game Doors, for your
Product Announcements and Information, and even for Fax-Back information!
A-MENU's power is really equal to your imagination!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advertisement Benefits of A-MENU
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-MENU is really worth its salt for it can help you get your money's
worth back plus some more!
How? By selling Ad Banner spots to your advertisers!
For example, you might want to sell one spot for $50
a year or $100 a year. This way, you get your money
back after selling only a few spots. Also, you could
benefit from this yearly repeat business!
******* ADVANTAGES of Using A-MENU for Adverstisement Purposes *******
1. Ad Banners are display upfront, not hidden several menu layers down.
2. Ad Banners are non-intrusive. They appear as one-line ad banners on
the top. If the caller wants more info on the Ad Banner currently
being displayed on the top of the screen, all s/he needs to do is
press [I]nfo for more information on the ad. This way, your board
appears more user-friendly and doesn't throw full adverstisements
at the caller's face everytime s/he logs on!
4. Ad Banners are easy to make. A-MENU.ADS contains 1 one-line banner
and one filename for the Information Screen for each Ad Banner.
Once you make the Information Screen (using wcDRAW), put its filename
after its corresponding one-line banner in A-MENU.ADS.
5. Ad Banners can be displayed in one of two ways:
A. STATIC - Each Ad Banner is displayed all at once.
B. TICKER-TAPE - Each Ad Banner first appears on the right
side of the top box and then moves across
to the left.
6. You as SysOp have several display controls in A-MENU.CFG. You can
make A-MENU display the next Ad Banner immediately after each time
the caller presses [I]nfo. You can also adjust the duration for
each Ad Banner to stay on the screen. See A-MENU.CFG Section below
for more display controls.
7. Your caller can even search for a particular string in the Ad Banners!
This nice feature is most helpful where you have a large number of
Ad Banners on your board and you don't want the caller to wait for a
particular Ad Banner to pop up once again before s/he could press [I]
for more information.
8. The caller can adjust Ad Banner Displays while online and have them
saved automatically upon exiting from A-MENU.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTES ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Line #4 - Display Ad Banners
You hae three choices here:
A. Put -1 on this line if you DO NOT WANT ANY MENU TO DISPLAY BANNERS.
B. Put 0 on this line if you WANT EVERY MENU TO DISPLAY BANNERS.
C. Put a positive number on this line if you WANT ONLY THE FIRST MENU
TO DISPLAY BANNERS. This number can be lower than the actual number
of registered Ad Banners.
Line #11 - Use which User.Comment() for saved settings
Select one User.Comment field that is not being used by any of your
BBS applications. This value must be a number from 0 to 5, where 0
will not allow the caller to save the Ad Banner Display settings
s/he has made while online with A-MENU. If you elect to turn this
on, the caller's settings will be saved upon exiting from A-MENU
only if any change has been made during this session by the caller.
Line #12 - Pathname and/or Filename (Chat Program)
1. Put wcCHAT on this line if you want to use WildCat!'s wcCHAT.
(NOTE: wcCHAT MUST be under your WildCat! Home Directory.)
2. Put a FULL Pathname AND Filename on this line if you wan to
use a third-party Chat Software.
3. Put NOCHAT or a blank (with a return) if you do NOT want Chat.
Line #13 - Pathname and/or Filename (Door Program)
Several Ways of using this line:
1. Put OLD-BBS on this field if you want to go from A-MENU to
your BBS's Main Menu.
2. Put DOOR-MENU on this line if you want to go directly from
A-MENU to your regular Door Menu (as defined under MakeMenu).
3. Put a FULL Pathname AND Filename on this line if you want
to run one of your own .WCX programs.
4. Put a FULL Pathname AND Filename on this line if you want
to run one of non-.WCX programs.
5. Put A-MENU.WCX or leave this line blank if you do not wish
to go to any other MENU from A-MENU.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Set Up A-MENU.CFG (Continued)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Line #14 - Pathname and/or Filename (Offline Mail Reader)
1. Put wcMAIL on this line if you want to use WildCat!'s wcMAIL.
(NOTE: wcMAIL MUST be under your WildCat!'s Home Directory.)
2. Put a FULL Pathname AND Filename on this line if you want to
use a third-party offline mail reader software.
3. Put NO-MAIL or a blank on this line if you do NOT want Offline
Mail Reader on your board.
Line #15 - Return to LOGON.WCX
If you used LOGON.WCX that came with A-MENUxx.ZIP (to be renamed to
LOGON.WCX from A-MLOGON.WCX by you), then you should put Y for Yes
on this line in order for A-MENU to return properly to LOGON.WCX.
If you already have your own LOGON.WCX program, then BACKUP your
LOGON.WCX FIRST before copying over LOGON.WCX from A-MLOGON.WCX!
A Friendly Reminder: LOGON.WCX MUST be under your WildCat! home
directory in order for it to be automatically run by WildCat!
Line #16 - Log Off or Quit if LOGON.WCX is NOT used
Put "L" (no quotes) on this line if you are running A-MENU.WCX from
another menu via MakeMenu AND if you want it to LOGOFF and not to
return to the first menu. If you want to have A-MENU.WCX return to
the first menu, put "Q" on this line.
Line #17 - Pathname and Filename for Good-Bye Program
Put the Good-Bye program's Pathname and Filename on this line if you
want to use your own or a third-party GOOD-BYE program. In order to
use this, you MUST put L for "Log Off" on Line #16. If you do not
want to use this line, just leave it blank or put "None."
Line #24 - SysOp's Menu's Name
The menu name for your SysOp Menu MUST be the same as given under
WildCat!'s MakeMenu. In order to return to A-MENU from SysOp Menu,
you will need to add a new menu option to SysOp Menu, and you can
do that under MakeMenu. See Section below on "How to Return to
A-MENU from Your SysOp Menu."
Line #25 - Pathname and Filename (Editing Program)
Put your favorite TEXT EDITOR program's Pathname and Filename on
this line.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Line #26 & #27 - Background and Foreground Colors for BBS Name
You can select, for the background color, any number from 0 to 7.
For the foreground color, the range is 9 through 15.
NOTE: Any invalid combination of these two colors will lead to a
red background (4) with yellow foreground (14) for BBS Name.
Line #28 - Copyright Info Placement
You can select either one of the following two options for displaying
the Copyright information:
BOTTOM - Allows the Copyright information to appear on the
bottom line of A-MENU screens.
UPFRONT - Displays the Copyright information upfront once
and does not display copyright information on
subsequent screens.
Line #29 - "Leaving A-MENU" Message Timer
Put the number of seconds for this timer to display the "Leaving A-MENU"
message upon quitting or logging off from A-MENU. A value of zero or
less will cause this message not to appear at all. NOTE: A value of 100
is equal to 1 second, 250 equals 2.5 seconds.
A HELPFUL NOTE: You can also edit A-MENU.CFG File from inside
the A-MENU Program! Once you have A-MENU up
and running, you as SYSOP can press [1] for
SysOp Menu and then [C] for Configure, and
you will find [E] option for editing your
A-MENU.CFG File "on the fly!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-MENU's Sub-Directories
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first time you run A-MENU, it will first look for three
sub-directories' existence. If they are not found, they will
be created automatically and one "dummy" file will be placed
in each of these three sub-directories. This is an one-time
operation.
The three Sub-Directories are:
...\A-MENU\ADS\ - Stores Banner Files
- Has this dummy file, AD.DMY
...\A-MENU\FLAGS\ - Stores Temporary Flags for
Offline Mail Reader Utility
- Has this dummy file, FLAG.DMY
...\A-MENU\SCREENS\ - Stores the following three files
for each A-MENU Screen:
A-MENUnn.BBS
A-MENUnn.FIL
A-MENUnn.LEV
- Has this dummy file, A-MENU00.BBS
NOTE: If you erase some or all of the files from any one of
these sub-directories, you may get an error message.
If you want to erase all the files from one sub-directory,
then you must remove that sub-directory as well OR copy
its corresponding dummy file from the A-MENU sub-directory
to that sub-directory. (See above for each Sub-Directory's
corresponding dummy file.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Security Level Handling
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-MENU offers you up to 26 primary Security Levels and up to
four secondary Security Levels to select for each Menu Option.
A-MENU Screens are treated all alike in the sense that you as
SYSOP need to decide which A-MENU Screens your callers can
access and which A-MENU Screens they cannot.
A-MENU Program will always call the first screen, namely,
A-MENU01.BBS. You may use this first screen to "screen" out
some callers from some further access. Or, for example, you
may want to run A-MENU from your WildCat!'s standard Message
Menu instead of from your WildCat!'s Main Menu.
NOTE: For access to each A-MENU Screen, A-MENU Program checks
to see if the User's Security Profile has been selected
by SysOp for the Screen. If the User's Security Profile
is selected by the SysOp for a particular Screen, then
the User will have access to that screen.
Same thing happens for User's access to each Menu Option.
In case you want to perserve your current primary Security Levels,
you can either create a new primary Security Level or set up one
or more of the secondary Security Levels for access to A-MENU
Screen(s) and for access to A-MENU's Menu Options.
All SysOp Menu Options on A-MENU Screens will be accessible
by the SYSOP only and no one else.
A-MENU's six unique Menu Commands (found under MISC COMMANDS inside
A-MENU program) are ALWAYS accessible for all Security Levels.
To control access for these six Menu Commands, you can assign
Security Levels to A-MENU Screen (as opposed to Menu Option).
For example, A-MENU's special Menu Command, GO TO ANOTHER SCREEN,
is itself accessible for all Security Levels. To prevent some
users from going to a particular A-MENU screen, you can configure
Security Level access to that A-MENU Screen. (NOTE: This is a NEW
feature starting with Version 3.4)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
About Ad Banners for Your Board
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under A-MENU's Sub-directory, ADS, you will find five
Banner Files. (They will be automatically copied to this
sub-directory during A-MENU's first run.)
Edit these Ad Banner files accordingly for your board.
You may rename Banner files as you wish.
Edit A-MENU.ADS according to what you have set up under \ADS\.
NOTE: This A-MENU.ADS file must reside under \A-MENU\,
not under \A-MENU\ADS\.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've Got A-MENU Up and Running - Now What?!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just READ and FOLLOW the prompts!
It should come to you as pretty much straight-forward.
At first, you will see an A-MENU01.BBS Screen on your monitor with no
Menu Option enabled. Press [ENTER] to continue and edit A-MENU Screen.
NOTE: If your security level is "SYSOP", then you will see
"[1] SysOp Menu" on the top right corner of the screen
display. Press 1 and you will see various prompts
popping up in the lower box on the display.
NOTE: This "SysOp Menu" is NOT the same as WildCat!'s Sysop Menu.
However, you can go to WildCat!'s Sysop Menu from inside
A-MENU program by pressing [O]! (See the previous page on
how to return to A-MENU program from WildCat!'s Sysop Menu.)
You can do whatever you please!
When you are done with SysOp Menu, you will be brought back to A-MENU
Screen, which will be enabled and ready for action!
You can move the cursor around on the A-MENU Screen with arrows on Num
Pad (with Num Lock ON) or by using letters ([L]eft/[R]ight/[U]p/[D]own).
You can also try each Menu Option by pressing their respective HOT KEYS!
You can go back and forth between this active A-MENU Screen and A-MENU's
SysOp Menu "on the fly!"
NOTE: When you have set up more than one A-MENU Screens and you
want to know which A-MENU Screen you are looking at on your
display, there is an easy way to tell.
Locally, you can press ALT-U repeatedly until you get two
line output on the bottom of your display. On the right
side of the top line of the two, you will find the current
screen's Filename.
Remotely, you can see the current screen's Filename when
you select [C] for Configure after pressing [1] for SysOp
Menu from the active A-MENU screen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running A-MENU on BBS For Evaluation (Unregistered Version)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have 30 days to evaluate A-MENU on your BBS, after which you
will asked to register this program.
You will be able to try out ALL the features that come with this
unregistered version. The UNREGISTERED screen will occasionally
pop up now and then (randomly) and this screen will, of course,
disappear once this program is registered. This way, you will get
a pretty good idea of how well A-MENU works. I suggest you to try
it as a SysOp and again as a non-SysOp and see how the screen and
the messages appear to change accordingly and appropriately.
NOTE: You, as the SysOp, MUST have your security level labeled
EXACTLY as "SYSOP" under your WildCat!'s MakeWild. If your
current security level is not labeled as such, then you
can create a new security level that reads EXACTLY as
"SYSOP" (NOT "The Sysop", "Sysop-1" or "SysOperator").
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are all set!
